Gildas Griffiths Photography

I'm an award winning Welsh speaking photographer based in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. I specialise in Landscape, Seascape & Wildlife photography. I’m also a passionate walker and enjoy stumbling across fantastic views and hidden wildlife. My work has been featured on various social media outlets, including BBC Wales News & Weather Forecasts and discussed on Radio Wales.

My photography journey started during the 2019 Pandemic, as a Senior NHS Wales Manager I needed a ‘hobby’ to provide a much needed distraction.

For prints, framed photographs or to enquire about any photography requirements, including personal commissions, please contact me.

All images featured on this site are my own and subject to copyright.

The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the subjects or people in it do.

Photography is a way of preserving memories and capturing the beauty of the world around us. Many photographers, including me, dedicate our lives to capturing stunning landscapes and wildlife. My photography hopefully captures the vibrant colours at sunset, the majestic beauty of a mountain, or the grace and character of a wild animal, mostly in their natural habitat - but as a Wildlife Photographer living in South Wales, some animals are not so easy to photograph ‘in the wild’.

Photographing beautiful landscapes and wildlife takes a lot of patience, skill and effort. The images featured on my website have required waiting for the perfect lighting, finding the right angle and always being ready to capture that unexpected moment.

What is Ethical Wildlife Photography?

A camera and any associated photography, if used wrongly can impact on the lives of our wildlife and the environment they live in. The most important objective of anyone wishing to photograph nature or wildlife is to work in a way that provides the animal peace rather than any pressure caused by your presence.

As a responsible wildlife photographer, I always place the welfare of any subject’s life, home and environment as a priority.

It is important and ethical that anyone who views my photography understands that they reflect a moment in time whereby I was lucky enough to see. I will always state if an image has been taken at a reserve, conversation area, Zoo, or an animal in it’s natural habitat.

It takes time, effort, dedication and a lot of patience to photograph certain animals and birds. Furthermore, I have dedicated my time to learn, observe, understand their behaviour and environments. Equally, I have learned to recognise the tell tale signs of any signs of discomfort, apprehension or fear. For me, there is never a compromise between the animals welfare and the opportunity to take “that shot”.
